Spartans in Training
We’re cultivating a group of kids who are better equipped to face whatever life brings them. It isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about character building and defining success in a positive manner.
What is Spartans in Training?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program combining the elements of metabolic conditioning, strength training, and gymnastics into workouts designed to improve your quality of life, fitness, and health. It is evidence-based fitness with measurable, observable, and repeatable results. CrossFit is a General Preparedness Program designed to prepare our athletes for life outside the box.
Spartans in Training is based on CrossFit programming, techniques and functional fitness specifically designed for children 5-13 years old. There is a vast difference between how children and adults build strength. The Spartans in Training program pays specific attention to these differences and aims to promote fitness at age appropriate levels. Spartans in Training focuses on making fitness FUN. The skills and lessons your children learn in the Spartans in Training classes will carry over to their everyday lives and provide strong building blocks as they grow into young adults.
Is Spartans in Training safe for my kids?
Yes. There is a wealth of scientific literature that supports the claim that strength and conditioning is not only safe but beneficial for growing children. There exists a strong correlation between physical activity and increased cognitive functions. Isaac Newton’s First Law of Motion states that “A body in motion will stay in motion, and a body at rest will stay rest unless acted on by an external force.” Spartans in Training is the external force that safely teaches and promotes a LOT of motion. By teaching the proper way to move, these movements safely build strength.
How can Spartans in Training benefit my child?
Spartans in Training focuses on a child’s motor and cognitive skills by teaching proper movement in an interactive and fun group setting through challenging the children to think about their movement, count their repetitions, remember the sequences, and work towards goals. Spartans in Training supplements a child’s involvement in sports by incorporating strength training and conditioning to make our CrossFit athletes better athletes at any sport.
In addition to increasing a child’s fitness and athleticism, Spartans in Training:
- Instills a lifelong definition of health and positive body image (what you can DO vs. how you LOOK).
- Reverses prevalent health issues such as obesity.
- Protects against injury.
- Creates a community of like-minded individuals for support and self-confidence.
- Hones life skills such as focus, perseverance, dedication, motivation, and goal-setting.
The goal of Spartans in Training is to provide the knowledge, ability, and skills which will allow our youth to grow and mature instilled with the virtues of an active and healthy lifestyle for the rest of their lives.
What can I do as a parent?
We encourage parents to support their children at the class, stay and spectate from the sidelines, cheer, help their children maintain consistency in CrossFit attendance, and provide healthy meals at home and for school. Healthy meals consist of protein, carbohydrate, and fat at every meal. The tenets we follow are: lots of lean meat, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, some fruit, little starch, no sugar, and no grains. These foods are the optimal fuel for the most sophisticated machines: our bodies. We emphasize the importance of unprocessed, natural foods in balanced proportions. For more information on the nutritional guidelines we follow, ask us about Paleo and The Zone. Scientific studies and personal trial and error among ourselves and our athletes have found that these dietary choices make us feel good, improve our physical and mental performance, and enhance our physical and mental health. We also insist that parents of our underage athletes inform us of medical conditions and allergies that may impact a child’s health, performance, and capability.
